Summary of Father’s Help (Unit 2)
Swami thought his father would understand the reason why he would not want to go to the school on that day. But his father thought differently from his son. He wrote a long letter to give it to the Headmaster of Swami’s school. After composing Swami’s father put that in the envelope and sealed it and told Swami to give the letter to the Headmaster. Swami lied about his teacher Samuel and asked his father about the content of the letter. But his father did not reveal the content.

Swami was not feeling good at all as he knew Samuel was friendlier than the other teachers of his school. Whatever he told his father about the teacher Samuel was a mixture of real and imaginary. Swami knew Samuel was not a bad man at all and even Samuel had a special concern for him. Swami got confused with the content of the letter as he could not make a decision that whatever had written in the letter were right allegations against Samuel or not? So he stood up silently by a roadside and thought about all these. Swami was feeling bad for Samuel. Whenever he thought about Samuel’s dark face, unshaven cheek, his thin moustache, and his yellow coat the pain, grief, and sorrow filled his soul and mind.

দেরি করে বিদ্যালয়ে গেলে ক্লাস টিচার স্যামুয়েল তাকে বকবে, এই কথা স্বামী তার বাবাকে বলেছিল এবং ভেবেছিল তার বাবা স্বামীর কথা মেনে নেবেন। কিন্তু তার বাবা সম্পূর্ণ বিপরীত একটি কাজ করেন। তিনি স্যমুয়েলের নামে একটি অভিযোগপত্র স্কুলের প্রধানশিক্ষককে দেবার সিদ্ধান্ত নেন। তিনি একটি লম্বা চিঠি লেখেন।
স্বামীর বাবা তাকে বাড়ি থেকে বেরোবার ঠিক আগে খামে ভরা চিঠি স্বামীর হাতে দেন এবং প্রধান শিক্ষককে দেবার জন্য বলেন। ঐ চিঠিটি স্যমুয়েলের উদ্দেশ্যে লেখা কিনা তা জানতে চাইলে স্বামীর বাবা বলেন তিনি স্যামুয়েলের সম্পর্কে অনেক কিছু লিখেছেন।
বিদ্যালয়ে যাবার সময় তার নিজেকে খুব খারাপ লাগছিল; মিথ্যা কথা বলা তার বিবেকে বাঁধছিল। স্বামী তার বাবাকে স্যামুয়েল সম্পর্কে প্রকৃত সত্য বলেনি। সে বিদ্যালয়ে না যাবার উদ্দেশ্যে তার কল্পনার সাহায্য নিয়ে কিছু কথা বানিয়ে বলেছিল। আদতে স্যামুয়েল স্যার মোটেও খারাপ মানুষ ছিলেন না। বরং তিনি অন্যান্য শিক্ষকদের তুলনায় বেশ কিছুটা বন্ধুত্বপূর্ণ ছিলেন এবং তিনি স্বামীকে পছন্দ করতেন।
বিহ্বল স্বামী বুঝে উঠতে পারে না যে চিঠিতে লেখা অভিযোগগুলি স্যামুয়েল স্যারের জন্য যথাযথ কিনা। এই ব্যাপারটা স্বামী যতবার ভাবে তার তত খারাপ লাগতে থাকে। স্যামুয়েল স্যারের মুখ, সরু গোঁফ, অপরিষ্কার গাল এবং তার হলুদ কোটের প্রতিচ্ছবি তার মনে ভেসে উঠতে থাকে।

Summary of Father’s Help (Unit 3)
After entering the school Swami decided to deliver the letter after the last period. Because over time Samuel could be prepared enough to justify the letter. So Samuel could say something to defend himself.
Samuel was teaching arithmetic to the students and Swami stood at the entrance of the class. Samuel noticed Swami and told Swami was about half an hour late for the class. Then swami replied he reached school late because he was having a headache. After that Samuel politely said that Swami did not need to come to the school with an illness. Swami also told that his father did not want him to stay at home and miss the lessons to be taught in the classes. Samuel was very impressed after hearing it and said there should be more parents like him. Then Swami felt very bad for Samuel as he did not know what kind of letter his father wrote against him. But then Swami took his seat according to the direction of Samuel.
Then Swami sat down in his seat with grief and thought he had never seen such good people like Samuel. Samuel was checking the homework of the students and asked Swami to submit his homework. But Swami replied he could not do the homework. Swami thought Samuel would be angry with him. But very gently Samuel asked about the reason and got the answer as “headache”.
Then after the final bell rang at 4.30 pm Swami reached the headmaster’s room with the letter. But Swami came to know from the Peon that the Headmaster took a leave for a whole week. Swami left the place and reached his home with the letter in his hand.
His father said that he knew that he would not send the letter to the Headmaster. Swami replied the Headmaster had gone for a leave for a week. After that with petulance, Swami’s father snatched the letter from Swami and tore it up. With annoyance, Swami’s father told Swami not to tell him again if for the second time Samuel scolded him as Swami deserved this type of scolding of the teacher Samuel.

বিদ্যালয়ের গেট দিয়ে ঢোকার পর তার মাথায় একটি বুদ্ধি আসে; সে ভাবে বিদ্যালয় থেকে ফেরার সময়ে সে চিঠিটা প্রধান শিক্ষককে দেবে। এই সময়ের মধ্যে স্যমুয়েল স্যার যদি খারাপ কিছু ব্যবহার করেন তাহলে ঐ চিঠিটা যুক্তিসঙ্গত হবে।
স্বামী ক্লাসের দোরগোড়ায় দাঁড়িয়ে দেখে যে স্যমুয়েল স্যার বীজগণিত শেখাচ্ছেন। তিনি স্বামীকে দেখে তার দেরি করে স্কুলে আসার কারণ জানতে চান। স্বামী যথারীতি উত্তর দেয় তার মাথাব্যাথা করছিল। স্বামী ভেবেছিল এই উত্তর শুনে স্যমুয়েল স্যার তাকে খুব বকবেন। কিন্তু বাস্তবে এর বিপরীত ঘটনা ঘটে, স্যমুয়েল স্যার তাকে বলেন ‘সেক্ষেত্রে স্বামীর বাড়িতেই থাকা উচিৎ ছিল’।
ঘটনার আকস্মিকতায় স্বামী অবাক হয়ে যায়। সে বলে তার বাবা চান যেন তার স্কুল কামাই না হয়। এই উত্তর শুনে স্যামুয়েল খুব খুশি হন এবং বলেন স্বামীর অভিভাবকের মতো আরো অভিভাবকের প্রয়োজন।
ক্লাসরুমের বেঞ্চে বসে স্বামীর মন আবার খারাপ হয়ে যায়। তার স্যামুয়েল স্যারকে পৃথিবীর সবচেয়ে ভালো মানুষ বলে মনে হতে থাকে। এদিকে স্যামুয়েল স্যার সবার হোমওয়ার্ক দেখতে শুরু করেন, স্বামীর কাছে এসে তিনি হোমওয়ার্ক চাইলে স্বামী তাকে জানায় যে সে হোমওয়ার্ক করেনি। স্যমুয়েল স্যার অনুমান করে নেন যে মাথা ব্যাথার জন্যই সে হোমওয়ার্ক করতে পারেননি।
4:30 এর সময়ে বিদ্যালয় ছুটি হলে স্বামী প্রধান শিক্ষকের ঘরের সামনে এসে দেখে যে ঘরের দরজা বন্ধ। বিদ্যালয়ের পিওন তাকে জানায় যে প্রধান শিক্ষক এক সপ্তাহের ছুটিতে গেছেন। স্বামী চিঠি হাতে করে বাড়ি ফিরে আসে। চিঠি ফেরত আসতে দেখে বাবা বলেন ‘আমি জানতাম তুমি চিঠি দেবে না’।
স্বামী তাকে জানায় যে প্রধান শিক্ষক ছুটিতে গেছেন। কিন্তু তার বাবা চিঠিটা তার হাত থেকে নিয়ে নেন এবং তা ছিঁড়ে ফেলেন। এবং সবশেষে তিনি স্বামীকে বলেন ‘এরপর থেকে স্যামুয়েল স্যারের বকা খেয়ে সে যেন তার বাবার কাছে আর না আসে।’
